Smart tv Remote study
Human Computer Interaction & Industrial Design
In my Human Computer Interaction course we were required to study a designed artifact that humans interact with. My group and I chose to study Smart TV remotes and the native UI that comes with the TV. We created a testing environment where we gave test subjects tasks to complete with a Roku remote, Apple TV remote, and an Amazon Firestick remote. The tasks were the same for each remote and included simple tasks like voice command “open Netflix,” turn on TV, go back to homepage etc. Certain tasks were more difficult for users to complete with a certain remote due to the remotes ergonomics and the screen’s UI.
After several rounds of testing we were able to figure out user pain points, and being the sole designer in the group I mocked up a remote prototype that aimed to tackle the common issues users experienced with the respective Smart TV remotes.
